3rd Leipzig Conference for Information and Library

Every three years, the Conference for Information and Library gathers the professional community and associated exhibitors in a high-profile event preceding the Leipzig Book Fair.
Its host, the Federal Union of German Library and Information Associations (Bibliothek & Information Deutschland - BID), would like to welcome you in Leipzig in March 2007.
The conference theme "Information and Ethics" captures leading-edge questions resulting from new technological forms of knowledge transfer und rising tendencies of economizing knowledge. The programme includes sessions such as "Information as merchandise", "Information and Civil Society" and "Information and Cultural Heritage", and offers the opportunity to discuss the challenges presented to information and library specialists by the interplay of globalization and global tendencies to liberalize economy. These questions and challenges will be debated based on the postulate of free, fair and equal access to information and knowledge, which is a main guarantor for developing and securing democratic civil societies.
These themes will be presented for discussion by knowledgeable international experts.
With this conference, we want to further innovative developments, support and share information on new trends and perspectives, and yes: enrich the professional discourse by provoking new thoughts.
