National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa - Wellington, Neuseeland
The National Library of New Zealand (Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa) Act 2003 requires the National Library to collect, preserve, protect and make accessible digital collections, along with traditional paper collections, in ways that ensure current and future access to New Zealand’s documentary heritage.
This presentation will briefly describe the National Library’s response to this legislative mandate for digital preservation (development of the National Digital heritage Archive - NDHA) and the challenges of implementing and sustaining a digital preservation programme. It will include discussion of wider issues than the software and hardware elements that support it.
There will also be discussion of the issues and challenges facing digital preservation as we move forwards.
