Greetings from the Organizer
“Bibliotheken – von Anfang an Zukunft (Libraries – From the Beginning into the Future )
With this motto we wish to invite you to the 104. Deutscher Bibliothekartag 26 – 29 May 2015. Using this motto, we are building on the challenges already successfully responded to by libraries and information institutions and their long tradition. The digital revolution which has changed most spheres of life is showing us the important role of the public and academic libraries in transferring knowledge and information. Anyone who takes a look at the changes which have happened to big and small libraries in the last two decades will verify: Libraries are the Future!
These changes require professional exchange and continuous further education of librarians and information institution employees. With more than 4000 national and international participants, the Deutscher Bibliothekartag is the largest library Conference in Europe. Being the central further education organizer for all German employees in public as well as academic libraries and information institutions, the Deutscher Bibliothekartag is also very important to those of us in library associations.
The Deutscher Bibliothekartag is also a place for exchange between libraries and their suppliers and partners in the industry. Through the exhibition the different companies and organizations disseminate information about new offers and trends as well as communicating with customers and contact persons from public and academic libraries. For the 104. Deutscher Bibliothekartag we were able to obtain a very attractive and convenient location; the spacious NürnbergConvention Center will be hosting the Conference and its events. The historical old town of Nuremberg offers many cultural, tourist, and culinary attractions which will be open for exploration after the official program has come to an end. It is a particular joy for us to have great support from the local libraries as we invite you to Nuremberg and Franconia with its appealing offers and services.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you here in Nuremberg.
